I recently took some photos for Deepak Damjee who is a master jeweller operating out of WestWood Mall in Durban.
Jewellery photography is extremely challenging for any photographer. The most difficult aspect is to avoid unwanted reflections in the metal and then also within the stones themselves. When you are using micro lenses, such as the 60mm Nikkor used in this shot, you also pick up all sorts of things that you can’t see with the naked eye, such as tiny little fibres and dirt spots. Camera flash also exacerbates this situation. Thank goodness for Photoshop!
