Hosting
Hosting of websites is an aspect of my business.
Current costs to host a website for 1 year on my US based server is US$100. This is payable in advance. It provides you with the following:
- 1GB disk space
- 5GB monthly bandwidth
- unlimited email accounts
- 1 mySQL database
- Fantastico script installer
- Control panel
- Unlimited FTP accounts
- Shell access
As of 17 October all hosting fees will be billed in US Dollars due to an unstable Rand. To pay for your hosting you may either use a credit card and follow the 2Checkout.com links in your online invoice, or alternatively you can request a conversion to Rands, which will be based on the prevailing exchange rate. This conversion will be valid for 24 hours.
Please note that while I am very happy to welcome new clients who already have a website, I cannot host sites that have been built using Microsoft’s ASP.net technology, or one that uses anything other than a mySQL database. If you are unsure as to what technology your site is using you can ask your service provider or contact me to take a look for you.
In many cases, provided there is not a tremendous amount of data backed up into an ASP website’s database, I do offer a conversion to a LAMP* based content management system called WordPress. There is a fee of R5,000 for this service, plus the hosting costs.
*LAMP = Linux, Apache, mySQL, PHP.
